Canon Explorer, Denmark

Please share a bit about your background as photographer.

I was born September 3, 1969 in Denmark. I studied photography at FAMU Academy of Film and Photography in Prague and graduated in 1995.

What type of photographer are you?

I am best known for my distinctive portraits of musicians and street artists.

For two decades I have created various iconic images of Björk, The White Stripes, David Lynch, The Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse, U2 and many others. I have published five books and exhibit my work in galleries and museums worldwide.

What are your favorite motives?

Recently I have turned my camera away from celebrities and I am now working on two new books: one on airplane wings and one on starling murmurations.

Which products do you use today?

My camera bag holds a Canon 1 DX Mark II and a 5DSR. My most commonly used lenses are CANON EF 85 mm1.2 II and CANON EF 24-70 mm.2.8 II. For my starling murmuration project I use the CANON EF 200-400 MM 4.0L IS USM EXT. 1.4X. For my airplane wing project, DEPARTURE, I use a Canon 1GX and a Canon G16.

Can you tell us about a photo moment which you will never forget.

The highlights of my career has been working with artists I really admire. David Lynch and Jack White made the top of that list.

Can you give an advice to someone who wants to develop in photography.

My biggest advice to anyone who wants to pursue a career in photography is to work with subjects that you are absolutely passionate about.

It requires a lot of energy, focus and time to develop your talent, so you want to spend that time on a subject that means a lot to you.
